Tin Hat Roof Scaffolding for Strandor Roofing Bromsgrove
Glencross Scaffolding was called in once again to support Strandor Roofing on a sensitive and challenging project in Bromsgrove. Following a serious fire that caused extensive damage to the roof structure and solar panels, our team was tasked with providing a safe, weatherproof working environment to enable the roofing contractors to carry out vital repairs.
Project Scope
The property had suffered severe fire damage concentrated around the chimney and surrounding roof area. With parts of the roof structure badly compromised and the solar panels still in place, careful planning and execution were essential. The brief was to design and erect a full tin hat scaffold to protect the building from the elements during the repair works while ensuring easy, secure access for the roofing team.
Given the condition of the structure, additional emphasis was placed on stability and safety. We also needed to consider the ongoing risks associated with weakened roofing materials and ensure the scaffold could safely support multiple trades working at height.
Installation
Our team erected a full freestanding tin hat scaffold system, complete with a corrugated tin roof and fully sheeted sides. The tin hat provided critical protection from the unpredictable British weather, preventing further water ingress and allowing uninterrupted roofing works.
The sides were tightly wrapped in heavy-duty sheeting to safeguard the interior from wind-driven rain while maintaining adequate ventilation for the site. Inside, we created multiple lift levels to give Strandor Roofing safe, practical access to all parts of the damaged area, including around the chimney stack and solar panels.
Temporary roof scaffolds are a speciality of Glencross Scaffolding, and this project was no exception. Despite the structural complexities, the scaffold was installed safely, securely, and quickly, minimising delays to the repair schedule.
Challenges
One of the key challenges on this project was working around the damaged sections of the roof. Some parts were heavily weakened, requiring careful planning to avoid putting any additional strain on already compromised areas.
The presence of solar panels added another layer of complexity. Our scaffold needed to avoid damaging the panels further while still providing full coverage and allowing safe access for removal or repair if necessary.
Weather conditions also played a part. With rain forecast during the build phase, speed was critical to ensure the property was protected as quickly as possible.
Thanks to careful coordination between our site team and the roofing contractors, we completed the scaffold installation in just over a week, delivering the safe, dry environment needed for the repair works to proceed.
Result
The finished tin hat scaffold gave full protection to the fire-damaged property while offering secure, stable access at all required points. It allowed the Strandor Roofing team to carry out their repairs efficiently and safely without the risk of water ingress or further damage.
At Glencross Scaffolding, we pride ourselves on delivering high-quality temporary roof systems that keep projects on track, no matter how challenging the conditions. This Bromsgrove project is another example of our team's commitment to safety, quality, and reliable service.
